" FROM THE REGION: 2008 Ashbrook Estate Sauvignon Blanc
THE Devitt brothers, Tony and Brian, have been growing the grapes and making the wines at Ashbrook Estate in Margaret River since 1975. They have always been content to fall beneath the PR radar, doubtless because their modest prices in no way reflect the impeccable quality across their portfolio, the consequence of which being the sold-out sign.
All of the 2008 white wines were worthy of inclusion in my annual top 100, and my choice of one left the others out to dry, including the 2008 Sauvignon Blanc (95 points, $22). Its clean bouquet offers gentle tropical fruits meshed with a touch of grass, then a long, focused palate, with interwoven strands of gooseberry and acidity providing excellent mouthfeel and aftertaste. A subtle and elegant, food-friendly wine." James Halliday the weekend edition The Australian Newspaper 13the Sept 2008.
