From our reviews last year on the 2004, Paul Atwood, the winemaker, was thrilled with the 2004 vintage which has been highly reviewed nationally and internationally but was excited about the almost perfect 2005 vintage. James Halliday review originally in the wine companion 2008 had pointed the 04 at 96 pts his Top 100, The Weekend Australian Nov comments provide the perfect summary
"97 Points - A sigh of relief greeted the release of this under screwcap. Earlier this year I wrote that the fruit sings: white peach, nectarine and grapefruit are the sopranos, barrel fermentation and partial malolactic fermentation the orchestra. It has since moved into an even higher register of perfection."
Harvey Steiman Wine Spectator referred to the 2001 Art Series Chardonnay the greatest white wine Australia has ever produced. Wine Spectator listed The 2001 at number 24 in the Editor’s selection of their top 100 wines in 2004.
In 2005, Leeuwin’s Art Series Chardonnay 2005 was ranked 24 in the Wine Spectators editor’s list of the top 100 wines.
"On the world stage, WA's most expensive white is excellent value. This is the best in a decade - cool tangy white peach, fine succulent, with the weight, power and natural acidity to age. Delicious." Peter Forrestal Sunday Times Magazine 10th Feb 2008.
