Recent Gold Medal Winner Wine International May 2007
Watervale and Polish Hill, and what beauties they are! Each year these wine makers improve, as do their Rieslings, now consistently up there with the best from the Clare Watervale region each year, but still a fraction of the price of many, still <$20 per bottle, hence amazing pargains.
The 2006 vintage has produced a wine typical of the Polish Valley with intense grapefruit, slate and citrus peel. The perfume is alluring with powerful slate and mineral, hints of grapefruit and subtle bath powder. The 06 is probably our best vintage of this wine, displaying great character and depth of flavour. The Polish Hill River Riesling always shows well before its Watervale counterpart, displaying lovely florals and delicate limes which seem to build some months after bottling.
